Qualcomm’s 1.3GHz QSD8650A Snapdragon chipset is 30% stronger, uses 30% less power

May 31st, 2009
Toshiba's TG01 made us quick fans of the 1GH Snapdragon processor. Now we hear that Qualcomm will have its 1.3GHz QSD8650A chipset on the market for sampling before the end of 2009 -- that means new smartphone and smartbooks (get used to it netbook fans) in 2010 running 30% faster while using 30% less power (and just 10 milliwatts in standby) thanks to the use of reduced 45-nm manufacturing processes. The new chipset supports multi-mode UMTS and CDMA 3G connectivity in the same 15 x 15-mm package as well as featuring enhanced 2D acceleration and 3D graphics core, integrated GPS, high-def video recording and playback, Bluetooth 2.1, WiFi, and support for WXGA (1280x800 pixels) displays pumping out your choice of MediaFLO, DVBH, or ISDB-T digital mobile television. The new chipset makes for a snug fit right in between the existing 1GHz QSD8x50 chipset and Qualcomm's dual-CPU 45-nm QSD8672 chipset running up to 1.5 GHz. After seeing the TG01 in action, you'd better believe that we'll be hunting down all the Snapdragon devices we can find at Comptux this week.

Corkscrew nanopropellers may one day deliver drugs internally

May 31st, 2009
Clearly, vaccinations are so three years ago. As the race continues to find the best, most mobile internal transportation device for delivering drugs to remote places within the body, Peer Fischer of The Rowland Institute at Harvard University has teamed with colleague Ambarish Ghosh to concoct the wild creation you see to the right. The glass-derived nanopropeller was designed to move in a corkscrew motion in order to plow through syrupy, viscous liquids within the human frame. The device itself is fantastically small, measuring just 200 to 300 nanometers across at the head and 1 to 2 micrometers long. Fischer points out that each of these can be controlled with a striking amount of precision via an external magnetic field, though we don't get the impression that they'll be on to FDA testing in the near future. Ah well, at least our gra, er, great-grandchildren will be all taken care of.

Easily Get Windows XP Driver Updates With A Click Of A Button

May 31st, 2009

There are several uses for Web Cams. These small digital cameras can be used for viewing and chatting with family and friends via the Web. They are great for the work area, such as school or office, for video conferences. They may also be used for security purposes, viewing areas that need extra supervision.

There are two different types of Web Cams. The first is an external camera that is attached to your computer with an USB cord. The second, is a camera that is actually built into your computer. These cameras are usually located on the monitor of your laptop.

These cameras capture images in JEPG or MPEG format and the upload them to the web sever by File Transfer Protocol (FTP) or Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP). You can control the image you want to send by using computer software that is compatible with the Web Cam. By adjusting the fps (frames per second) you can send a streaming video. Minimum fps for this is 15 but 30 fps is recommended for best quality.

Web Cams have been around for quite a few years. The first was used in 1991 at Cambridge University. It was pointed at a coffee pot in the Trojan room for viewing information. It was used for 10 years until it was finally turned off.

I’m sure when you purchase and use one of these Web Cams, you will find endless uses for it. Some of the manufactures you may want to look for are: Creative Technology Ltd, Encore Electronics, Ezonics, Labtec, Logitech, and Sony. These are just some of them, with the new technology we have today new ones are being designed everyday. Purchase yours and get connected with the visual message world.

One of the most common answers to any computer related error question is “try and update your drivers”. As simple as it sounds the task of finding the correct, and most up to date drivers can take a lot of time and cause a lot of headaches.

The importance of drivers is easy to understand once you know exactly what it is that they do. Your computer is made up of many components and devices that do the day to day things that make having a PC so convenient. From printers, to mice, keyboards, USB devices, scanners, DVD-Roms you name it! Every single one of these devices uses a separate driver to know how to function properly.

Unfortunately, drivers are notorious for being extremely buggy. So much so that critical updates are issued all the time. However, very rarely, if ever, are you aware that these new updates exist. If you’re not completely up to date then you could be missing out on some of the greatest features your device has to offer.update webcam drivers

Broken drivers are also very common. As new standards are introduced, drivers may no longer function properly in terms of performance. In addition, todays threat of malicious programming, like adware and viruses are known to specifically target a systems device driver, and render it corrupt. Even if you have a good anti-virus chances are by the time it has caught the culprit the damage has all ready been done.

With such an important role keeping your devices up to date with the correct drivers is mandatory for a smooth and optimized running computer.webcam driver

Finding Windows XP driver updates can be simplified greatly by using automatic driver software. What these pieces of programming do is take the tedious task of searching through mountains of web pages and locate the correct driver for your device. After an initial scan of your system, you’ll be shown a report of any out of date, broken or faulty drivers your computer is currently using. From there, the program will download and install the correct drivers. By using this type of software your system is guaranteed to be running with the most up to date, correct and official drivers at all times.

Broken CD Rom Drivers – 3 Error Fixing Tips

May 31st, 2009

Buying a new DVD-Rom and finding out that it has Corrupt drivers can be a real bummer, but do not fret; the solution can be found easily, as easy as logging onto the web. Do not go rushing back to the store when you have a perfectly viable solution on the web.

One solution you might want to consider is to obviously find new ones. The drivers that you have in your possession are probably Broken or damaged. Normally when you get a CD-Rom, you do not really need drivers for the simple models, but for the cutting edge selections that are on the market, you might need drivers for Windows or any other OS to be able to capitalise on their more advanced features. The problem with this is that having been mass produced to such a large scale, there would definitely be faults on the manufacturing side and one of these can come directly from the drivers itself. If they supplied you with a CD with the drivers (for a DVD-Rom you have not installed), then you might have a problem where the drivers might have been installed incorrectly, and are Corrupted, so all you need to do is to contact the manufacturer and get a fresh set of drivers from them.

The other solution would be of course to download the necessary drivers from the web, and this usually involves finding the manufacturers’ website and clicking on the technical support link. They usually will have the latest drivers there for you to download and a highlight of the previous problems of the older ones. Sometimes, it is not the case of the missing driver, but the case where there is an issue of incompatibility with your system and the drivers that you are trying to install. Sometimes this happens when the drivers are tested with older systems that have not been updated and since operating systems like Windows tend to update themselves regularly, you always need to have on hand the latest set of drivers on you. Downloading them from the web is the easiest solution here.cd rom driver download

What if the problem persists even after you replace the drivers? Well, before you panic and think that the problem might be with the CD Rom itself, you need to look through the help forums and technical help you can get online; there are plenty of people like you out there on the internet that might have the same problem as you. So you do not need to worry unnecessarily.

In some instances, it could be a problem with your motherboard’s onboard audio system, or even some other devices on your computer conflicting with your CD Rom. More than likely you will be able to find a solution to your problem posted by a tech guru or an expert on the subject and he or she will either post the solution or give you the necessary links you need to know to fix your problem.update cd rom drivers

If you ever encounter problems with Corrupt DVD-Rom drivers, try the abovementioned solutions. What better way to resolve them than with hassle-free ways that do not require you to send the DVD-Rom back to the retailer which you may have purchased it from?

Companies to show 5 or 6 ARM netbooks at show

May 31st, 2009

Netbooks made with the processors required to run Google's Android software will be on show at Computex Taipei 2009 this week from at least five or six companies, an executive from Arm Holdings said Monday.

The company does not expect to take a significant share of the central processing share of the netbook market this year, but growing interest in its processing cores should lead to greater gains next year.

Arm expects around 20 percent of netbooks next year to carry ARM central processors inside, said Warren East, CEO of the company, at a news conference in Taipei.

The company makes the most popular smartphone and mobile phone processors in the world. It's position in smartphones prompted Google to design Android to run on ARM processors. Now that companies around the world are looking at using Android in netbooks, they will also use ARM central processors in the devices.

ARM processors and other mobile phone components have been designed for low cost, battery efficient, always-connected mobile devices. Mobile phone users, for example, often expect to be able to charge their handset or smartphone and use it for a few days before plugging in again. Arm and its customers hope to take that same idea to netbooks and perhaps even larger laptop computers.

"We find that consumers are using only a tiny bit of the computing at their disposal," said East. "ARM netbooks today, we believe, can meet the needs of half the netbook consumers out there."

Netbooks with ARM processors will be able to run for nine to 10 hours without needing a recharge, said Mike Inglis, general manager of the processor division at Arm, in an interview. His time estimate is for normal use, not a device running on low-power settings. The upper range of battery life estimates for some current netbooks, at around 8 hours with a 6-cell battery, assumes users will turn down the screen brightness and put their netbook in low-power mode. But under normal use, such netbooks run for only around six hours before needing a recharge.

Five or six Taiwanese companies will show off netbooks with ARM central processors inside at Computex, Inglis said. These devices will come from companies such as the former contract manufacturing arms of Acer and Asustek, both Wistron and Pegatron, respectively, as well as Foxconn Technology, Inventec, and the world's largest laptop computer maker, Quanta Computer.

While Inglis did not comment on what kind of software the devices will run, he said Linux looks very interesting this year.

"We're very excited about what we see going on, particularly around Android," he said.

Pegatron to show touchscreen netbook with ARM chips

May 31st, 2009

Pegatron, the former contract manufacturing arm of Asustek Computer, will show a netbook with a 10-inch touchscreen display at Computex this week, an industry source revealed Monday.

The netbook runs chips from Freescale Semiconductor that contain ARM processing cores.

Google's Android software runs on ARM processors, but the person did not say whether the netbook will host Android software on board. There are a number of operating systems available for ARM-based netbooks, including Ubuntu Linux and Microsoft Windows Mobile, in addition to Android.

Several Taiwanese companies will show off netbooks with ARM central processors inside at Computex this week. Many people expect to see some netbooks with Android software on board at the show, but there have been no official announcements yet.

Valentine Free Arcade

May 31st, 2009

If you are very serious about making video games and in particular working on graphics for video games then getting photoshop would be the ultimate choice for you because it is what they use in the game making industry.Valentine Free Online Games You will know how to use the software which is a big plus! But, if you can’t afford Photoshop you might want to consider Paint Shop Pro. It is very much like Photoshop and you will still learn the skills of graphic design and graphic manipulation and the skills will be easily transferred to Photoshop once you get it. Valentine Free Online Games Arcade

Adobe Photoshop CS2 Photoshop is the industry standard. It is a high-powered and professional program that can do practically anything. This is what the real video game makers use to work with graphics. But this is not for fun, you will need to commit time to learning how to use this powerful program. Photoshop

Now this isn’t all you need to know about making graphics, there is still one more important thing to know. I will show you what this is then we will learn how to import the graphics right into your game software so you can use it when making a game.
There is one more thing you need to know about making textures for your video game. You know that your computer is simply a number crunching system. It is very good at counting out numbers and when it is pouring textures into the surfaces of your game it is counting out numbers. But not all numbers are as easy to crunch as others.

In order to make the compilation and then the running of your game faster the compiler and computer use groups of numbers. This grouping makes things run so very much fasters and in order for you to take advantage of this grouping of numbers you should create your tiles and textures in very uniform sizes.

Whenever you make your tiles you should make them in multiples of either 64, 128, or 256 pixels in size. In any event your textures really should be in a power of two so either 2 pixels, 4, 8, 16, 32, 64, 128 or 256.

If you don’t quite understand this I mean that your texture should always be a square and that each side of the square should be one of those pixel lengths with the most common being 128 or 256.

This is a very important concept and you should always follow this rule of power of two. It is possible that if you didn’t follow this and you built large games that it could slow down considerably. It could get so slow that it wouldn’t be playable.

One More Note about Optimizing your Graphics for Video Game Making

This is important – Write this down!!!
If you are going to be making your own graphics to import into the Genesis 3D Game engine, which is what this tutorial is all about, then the images have to be:

in .BMP format and in 256 Indexed Color Mode
The .BMP format is bitmapped format and a standard way of saving an image, the 256 Indexed color mode is also a standard mode for images. These two settings are easily done when you are saving your image in either Photoshop or Paint Shop Pro.
You simply save your images as .bmp and in 256 color mode. In Paint Shop Pro there is a menu option under Colors that is called Decrease color depth. You simple select this to 256 colors. And to save as a .bmp you simply select .bmp when you save it.
